My team is finding the simple search box too simple. I'd like to be able to search specifically by subject, by date and/or by user/email address.

You can use Command ⌘ instead of Control ^ on Mac

We're working on a better search interface right now actually. Should see it live by next week. Not sure if the Bulk Edit will be ready by then, though. We're also tweaking a few other search issues that people have reported.
