Login to a Private Tender using my Google Apps account

Our entire company uses Google Apps. It'd be great if they could signin to our private tender using their GAPPS credentials. We haven't told our users about Tender yet because we know they will groan about creating yet another username/password. Right now our users send emails to it@ that go into Tender but they don't know that it exists.

I also know you have a solution for this already, but using our Google Apps logins would be the easiest thing for our company to implement. I wonder if many other private tender users also run on Google Apps.

See this blog post for more info:

I'd like to take better advantage of Tender forum and the knowledge base but it'd be great if there was a simple way for all of my users to have accounts in Tender. The other nice thing about supporting authentication against GAPPS is that I can setup my security policies in GAPPS and they're carried over to Tender. Like if I want to force users to change their passwords.

Interesting, I had no idea this was possible. It looks like Google is just using OpenID, so this should mostly work. From a quick glance, it looks like we'd need make some API request to convert your Google apps address into an OpenID URL transparently.

Yeah I was somewhat upset last week when Google rolled out what they called OpenID support for Google Apps. Except that their implementation of OpenID doesn't work with any currently OpenID sites. So you'd need to specifically support their flavor of OpenID.

I'm not sure if you want to do that but it'd be useful for us. I'm hoping Google Apps will become our central user mgmt system one day since it's so easy to administer. :)

The nice thing about supporting this protocol for Tender is that Tender can very easily be rolled out to any business with Google Apps. It's kind of odd in our company... any new Google App gets adopted very fast because users can easily sign-in to it. But when I try to roll out another hosted application I need to put effort into making sure it's adopted (examples: Tender, Lighthouse, Basecamp).

If I could tell my users that they can use our new help desk with their Google account they'd be on it in no time.

It sounds like all Google did was add a new discovery protocol for
OpenID. We use Google for entp.com stuff, so we'd find it pretty
useful too. I can't guarantee when we'll support it though.
Hopefully someone makes a sweet ruby implementation soon :)
