Whats the deal with "Anonymous" yet "Logged in" users?

Hey, We see this a lot, and I think we're doing something wrong because it doesn't look right.

Users are logging in Via their Shopify stores, and we can tell this because it appends their StoreID in their User name, however at the same time it reports them as being "anonymous". See below for an explanation from one of our customers:

support+143982 (anonymous)

This problem has been hitting me for more than 3 months now and still isn't fixed. If I log into my Shopify account, then go to the forums, it tells me I'm an anonymous user and need to log into my account, so I click the login link, log in, click support again, same issue. I'd like to post as myself but the last 3-4 times I've had issues, I've had to post anonymously and I've mentioned this in my posting, but no one has commented on it or addressed it, so I'm posting a posting just about this issue now. :)

This used to work.

Any ideas? Mike

Okay, so originally if the name wasn't given, we'd attempt to generate one by sanitizing the email. This would turn [email blocked] to rick (anonymous). We agreed when people started complaining about it, so we yanked it. The thing is, any existing names with that (anonymous) tag are still there. I guess I assumed people would have updated them or something.

You can set the name from Shopify actually. There's a newer url-based multipass method for sending an encrypted JSON hash, or you can specify a tender_name cookie. See the updated FAQ on this. If you are still using cookies, be sure to add the tender_name value to the hashed string. Let me know if you need help with that.

FWIW: I looked up the specific user and found that every one of their discussions was attached to their user profile. I just ran a job that removed the (anonymous) bit to every user name that still had them, so the user won't see them anymore.
