eg. I would like to ask our users to provide their username on our main system when they ask a question or sign up for tender.
Is it possible to ask for extra fields on discussion forms and/or account signup?

You can pass them into Tender through Single Sign On, creating profiles automatically for them and pass any information you need, of course that assumes your main system is web based and they are logged in.

There is not a way to add custom fields to Tender though.
