Hi David,
We're glad to hear that you're happy with Tender Support! We do support importing from outside systems using a specialized import format based on JSON. In the long term we'd love to have a more turn-key solution for this, but at the moment you'll have to produce the import data yourself.
Hope this helps,
-hobson

David,
I developed an interest in this problem and spent a little time cranking out a Ruby program that might help you with your import efforts. The attached script accepts your ZenDesk credentials and use the ZenDesk API to produce an import archive for Tender. There are a couple of rough edges: It has only been tested on my own system and uses some brute-force methods to convert html to text at the moment, but I am offering it here in the hopes that will be be useful to you.
Thanks and regards,

David why are you moving away from Zendesk? We are a Zendesk user, looking at Tender for another app, but wondering what you know that we do not.
thanks for insight.

Hobson-this rocks!
I'll give it a go later today.

Hi Don,
We found using ZenDesk painful. Most of our issues didn't come down to
features but to the User Interface and User Experience. We love using Tender
and find replying to tickets via email much easier, love the FAQ feature and
think the admin dashboard and section are far superior and easier to use
than the one in Zendesk.
Hope this helps,
David

Hi
We may be coming your way, are you able to support the zendesk export file to import our historic data to your system?
#7 Posted by Paul on 18 May, 2010 02:55 PM
Another Zendesk customer, willing to switch if there is a good import system!
#8 Posted by Jamie on 18 May, 2010 02:56 PM
I might be coming too...
Can you pass over login information, so our users don't have to re-register?
Is there anything that you can't do in Tender that you can do in Zendesk??
Thanks

I hope you guys see a huge migration from ZenDesk they just changed their pricing and I think its going to be the fall of their system people are going to mass exodus
Looks like most people's bills are about to double or triple BIG accounts too!
How hard is it to migrate to your system from Zendesk?
#10 Posted by Matt Ross on 18 May, 2010 03:42 PM
Another Zendesk customer switching to Tender. Now I just need to upgrade my Zendesk account to export my data to import into Tender to say good night and good luck to Zendesk.
Unbelievable. I hope you guys don't double your prices once I've migrated 8|
#11 Posted by James on 18 May, 2010 03:54 PM
I would like to know if Tender is planning on increasing their prices anytime soon as well! I would hate to migrate again and then find there prices go up
#12 Posted by Courtenay Support staff on 18 May, 2010 04:45 PM
No, we're not increasing prices. In the past, whenever we increased prices
we allowed existing customers to stay on their existing plan (without paying
for a year in advance, omg!)
#13 Posted by James on 18 May, 2010 04:46 PM
Thank you for letting me know! I hope you guys see a huge increase in business from this!
I am interested in migrating my zendesk to something else
#14 Posted by Robert White on 18 May, 2010 05:17 PM
I might be moving as well. Would love this transition to be as smooth as possible. Your software looks like it will meet our needs at a price point that will work for us.
Thanks,

Interested in offering Disgruntled ZenDesk customers a discount and perhaps help migrating?
I am sure you will get a mass increase in sales if you offered this
#16 Posted by Jamie on 18 May, 2010 05:30 PM
Not wishing to tell you how to do your jobs, but if you could put up a quick webpage "Disgruntled Zendesk-er? How to migrate to Tender", it might be very fruitful for you right now...
#17 Posted by Courtenay Support staff on 18 May, 2010 05:33 PM
I suggest you guys all sign up a free trial account - you'll be up and
running in less than a few minutes. If you like it, we will work with you
to import your existing site.
- James - Tender is already a significant discount on Zendesk! We also offer
less features, and less customization. :)
#18 Posted by Jamie on 18 May, 2010 05:38 PM
Quote Courtenay:

less features, and less customization. :)
So you're Support, not Sales, right? ;-)
#19 Posted by Courtenay Support staff on 18 May, 2010 05:58 PM
More features = more pain. Tender has, I believe, two form fields to fill
out and you're up and running. To quote Steve Jobs, "Boom!".
We have a different philosophy to most of our competitors in terms of adding
features, and we don't have sales staff :)
#20 Posted by Jamie on 18 May, 2010 06:02 PM
Well I really liked the features and customisations in zendesk - there was little pain there for me!
I hoped I could do similar things in tender - maybe not...
Anyway I'll give it a try...
#21 Posted by Simon on 18 May, 2010 09:59 PM
Just switched over from Zendesk also. Tender interface is much nicer... I'm glad we didn't invest ourselves too much into Zendesk, and that price change made this decision immensely easy as well (but even without that, I think we would have switched!).
Very happy so far :-)

What happens if you need more than 25 agents??
#23 Posted by Will on 18 May, 2010 11:33 PM
Hey Jamie. How many more? We can offer custom plans pretty easily, but if it's just a few more than 25 we just let it slide. I'd give the trial a whirl and play with our dashboard/workflow setups before pulling the trigger on specifics for a custom plan, but we're more than willing to accommodate if need be.
#24 Posted by Jamie Pears on 18 May, 2010 11:42 PM
Great - that's fine.
We currently have 19 agents - of which 2 are 1st line support (on zendesk
pretty much full-time), and 17 are developers who act as 2nd/3rd line
support, and need to access zendesk once or twice per week on average.
We might increase that to 25 or 30 over time, but I just wanted to check
there wasn't a hard limit.
And are you able to group users into *Organisations* (e.g Company 1)?
Can you group agents into *Groups *(e.g. 1st Line Support - US)*?
*Then can you map particular *Orgainsations* to *Groups* ? (e.g. So 1st
Line Support - US are always assigned tickets from Company 1)
And can users see other issues from their Organisation?
Basically, these are things that we can do in Zendesk and we need to check
that we can do them in Tender before I invest too much time in setting up a
trial account.
Thanks.

For the interested, I've posted a revised version of our ZenDesk export script. Using lynx to do html to text conversion didn't really work, but I was able to find a python program that does exactly what we need and am now using that instead. Anyone who wants to move their users and discussions from ZenDesk should use this revised script and not the original attached to this thread. Be sure to recheck the prerequisites.
Thanks and regards,
-hobson

Hi Hobson,
The script works great, but it exports just the forums (& users). Any chance of doing the same for tickets?
Take care,
Alex

out of interest and kind of unrelated but does Tender filter out automated replies like the one above?
#29 Posted by Will on 20 Jul, 2010 05:54 PM
Hey Gary. Automatically no. You can set up a filter to remove messages that contain those words though.
#30 Posted by gary on 20 Jul, 2010 06:21 PM
Hi Will,
Do the rules have access to the email header?
It would be very easy to filter these out system wide using the Precedence and/or Auto-Submitted header in emails.
In fact if the header is set correctly in the outbound emails from Tender the remote servers wouldn't even respond.
Thoughts?
