Make outside links default to opening a new tab
I see numerous past requests for this feature, and it looks like you guys keep kicking it down the road. I think it's probably one of the most annoying aspects of managing tickets in tender. If I'm viewing a ticket with an external link, why does it makes sense to you guys to navigate your user out of tenderapp and away from the ticket? In all likelihood, the user is going to want to come back to the ticket after following the link. Wouldn't opening the external link in a new tab optimize that use case? The ticket in Tender would always be one click away.
My suggestion is that you guys either make this a configurable option, or just do it.

This is something we held the line about for a long time. It's already an optional thing for people to right click on a link to open in a new window.
That said, we are considering making it part of the app but it's not going to be something that happens in the near future. I've attached the development ticket to this discussion and when we have it in active development we'll update this discussion with the status.
Thanks,
Nicole

Thanks Nicole. Just to make sure you guys have this all in one place:
• https://help.tenderapp.com/discussions/suggestions/1308-can-links-in-discussions-default-to-open-in-a-new-tab
• https://help.tenderapp.com/discussions/suggestions/292-non-tender-links-to-open-in-new-window
• https://help.tenderapp.com/discussions/suggestions/412-open-private-_url-links-in-a-new-window
These are people (like me) who finally got to the point of annoyance that they took the time to submit an enhancement request. Have you guys looked in to how many other users might like this feature who haven't yet gotten to the point of submitting a request for it? That might be a good starting point.

Up until this year we've been pretty consistent with our stance that having links open in a new tab overrides the user's expected browser behavior. This year we decided to consider changing this behavior and there is an existing development ticket. We'll update this discussion when it's in active development, but it's not an urgent issue for us and it's also very easy to open links in a new window with the cmd/ctrl key if that works best for your workflow.
Thanks for your feedback,
Nicole
