Watchers remain when ticket marked private

Hi guys,

I was recently bitten by the same issue as reported here:

https://help.tenderapp.com/discussions/problems/2259-i-can-view-pri...

In that thread you mention that it's working as intended, but at least in my case, I can't think of a situation where I'd want to make a ticket private but keep any existing watchers, and I didn't realize that I'd have to remove them manually until today when a watcher chimed in that they were still able to see the discussion, so I suspect this is catching other users as well. Thoughts?

    Hey Damien,

Tender does not differentiate between users who subscribed to updates, and users who were manually added by staff as watchers. Therefore, when you mark a discussion as private, all watchers are kept.

That being said, I can see how that can bite if you are a heavy user of forums, and users regularly subscribe to discussions. One alternative way to go about this is to split the discussion: the new discussion should only have the comment author as a watcher, and this is a great way to handle a specific user outside of an otherwise public thread.

I think that we could have a warning message when marking a discussion private, and there are watchers that have not commented yet (ie they are observers, rather than participant). I'll create a ticket for this and we'll consider it when looking at our roadmap.

If the split discussion doesn't work for you, you will indeed have to do a quick check on the watcher list before marking the discussion as private.

Let me know if you have questions.

    Cheers!

    Hi Julien,

Sorry for the delayed reply, and thank you for creating a ticket. For now,
I'll make sure to manually remove watchers when making a ticket private.

    Cheers,
    Damien
