additional structured form fields for discussion topics

I want to capture some automated data from my users when they submit a problem (e.g. user agent, OS, screen resolution, etc.) plus one or two custom fields (e.g. area of the product they were using at the time, etc.). is there any way to extend the data in a discussion submission?

    We already collect some of that information, although it's only viewable on edit of a users comment. You can collect and send any arbitrary key/value pair you want as part of multipass. Using additional fields is something we are considering but there are no immediate plans to implement.

    Thanks,
    Nicole

    We haven't deployed this, actually, yet. But you'll be able to hit
    'edit' on a discussion and see the user agent after the next deploy
    (hopefully tonight). We're still discussing ways of exposing this to
    sites who want it in the forefront.

    Will I be able to see the user agent of the original poster (as opposed to me)? i.e. when someone submits a bug, the first question is what browser they're using, so I'd want to see that with their submission so I don't have to ask it.

    Deployed. You can now see the user agent (click 'edit' on a discussion) or to view it in the discussion view (no clicks!) add this to your custom CSS:

    .original-post .user-agent-fields{
      display: block;
    }

    We're still in fisticuffs stage on how to handle custom fields in the form, but will keep you updated.

    I'd love to see an update on where you guys are with custom fields on the form... this is a feature we desperately need incorporated to help keep some of our sanity. It's amazing how much repeatedly asking for the same information from customers that they fail to provide will drive one to drink ;)

    I'd love to see this feature as well. A simple use case for us is that we use Tender as a support system for our web application. The very first thing we need to know from customers is which version of the product they are using. It would be a no-brainer for us to be able to create a simple text field or even a drop down (with pre-defined values) so that end users could fill in their version of the product. Currently, we have to ask this as part of our initial response to the customer and even once we do know the version, we have to go digging into the content of the post every time we revisit the issue.

    I suggest you use the Multipass SSO system, which lets you embed whatever
    data you want.

    This would essentially provide users with a link to Tender which contains
    all their product information encrypted in the link and is shown to
    supporters.
