Android Widget

Hi All,

I went to Google IO a few weeks back and beyond showering me with phones I also got a appreciation of Android. In order to learn more I thought to write a little app decided to write something to help me monitor my Tender inbox.

If you go to the Android marketplace and search for 'tenderapp' you'll see a free widget you can place on your home screen that will show you how many items are in your inbox -- Pretty simple but pretty nice (I certainly am using it on my Android phone right now)

Attached is a picture of what it looks like....

As I said it's free so go ahead and grab it if you like. I've got a few ideas on how to enhance it but as it stands it's fairly useful now (biggest problem is typing in the impossibly long auth key on a mobile keyboard)

Enjoy & let me know if you have any thoughts! ([email blocked])

    Hey Josh, that's really cool!

I saw a link on a tweet about the android widget when I was on my way to work this morning. I've been meaning to take a look at it.

Do you have a Tender account that you are actively using? I'll hook you up with some credit for hacking on this.

    HI Will,

Thanks -- My tender account is loghoundcom

I'm actually a teeny bit embarassed because last night when I pushed it out I made 'one last fix' and then published. It turns out the one last fix was one that made it look like your inbox was empty (wishful thinking perhaps).

Anyway I just pushed 1.01 up to marketplace with a fix for that.

Cool. I spoke to a few users who saw it crash, so I'll see if I can have them submit reports to you.

My only first impression feedback is the size of the UI for the widget. A simple counter on the icon is almost enough, and would take up a lot less space. It's at least an idea to play around with.

Hmmmm I saw one crash report for someone who typed in a bogus auth code but otherwise nothing -- I'll fix the one crasher (he used a space in his auth code) but if you know of anything else let me know.

The badge is a good idea -- I'll see if I can do a 'mini' version.

I just pushed up version 1.10 -- Fixed the one known crasher as well as now provides two styles. The original 'long format' as well as a compact view which just badges the icon (see attached)

Cool. I'll post this up somewhere so people can find it as well, just gotta free up some time to get that stuff together. I added a few months of credit to your Tender account as well.

It is unclear what the Auth Key is? I thought that it was the SSO key, but that didn't work. could someone point me in the right direction?

    Hi Michael,

Hmmm Perhaps the name could be more clear.

What you want to do is edit your profile to find your "API Key" You get there by logging in and clicking on your account name in the upper right hand corner and then clicking 'edit profile'

The API Key is a very long hex digit that you use in the widget (you need the 'read/write' one)
